Hotel Reviews

'Great weekend'
"A historic hotel full of character. As long as you take ear plugs you will enjoy your stay. We travel all over the world and rate this hotel amongst the best, much better than any 5 star 'group hotel'. If you like historical places then go."

'Another great stay at the Red Lion Hotel'
"I go to the Red Lion with my girlfriend every three months, I have been about nine times now and recommend it. The hotel is great, staff friendly and food is fantastic. On top of that Colchester is a nice town with a great castle and grounds and good array of shops."

'Fantastic Service!'
"When we arrived at the hotel, reception were extremely friendly, offering breakfast and dinner and recommending places to visit during our stay in Colchester. We stayed in room 10, which was beautiful with original wattle & daub walls and a high beamed ceiling, clean and cosy, just what we expected from an old coaching inn. Service throughout our stay was fantastic, the staff told us ghost stories and all about the history of the hotel. Unfortunately we did not dine in the hotel for dinner but the breakfast in the morning was delicious and cooked to order. We enjoyed it so much, we booked their valentines package to stay again next month."

'Champagne weekend'
"My husband and i stayed here for a weekend. The staff was very friendly and helpfull nothing was too much trouble. Our room was comfortable and clean. My husband and I are in our 60's and we manged to have a shower no problems. We had a really nice time. Bathroom was on the large side and was clean. We had a large choice of cereals and fruit juices and cooked breakfeats with plenty of tea and toast. The only downside was the stairs and the noise which wasn't the fault of the hotel and not too keen on the evening meals as not a lot of choice. Stayed in room that Alice the ghost likes to visit the most, but she did not visit while we was there. Would go again."
