They’re reet nice folk in Yorkshire. They’re proud of their heritage as well. You can see why when you visit the Grade II listed George Hotel Huddersfield right in the centre of the town. It’s the third hotel on the site; the first was built in 1687, the second in 1787 and this one opened in 1851. So for 250 years the George has been where the good and the great in Huddersfield have set out to enjoy themselves. In 1895 the Rugby League was formed at a meeting in the hotel and it’s well worth while having a look at the Rugby League Museum commemorating its history.

You’re never cramped in a Victorian hotel; there is space and craftsmanship, elegance and a comforting solidity. Everything which epitomises the George Hotel. Of course, it has been modernised - but discreetly. The original design remains the dominant memory you’ll have of your stay.
