miles north of Warwick. Kenilworth is best known for Kenilworth Castle, a magnificent

Kenilworth Castle
Kenilworth Castle is one of England's most spectacular castle ruins, and the magnificent
stone mote and bailey fortress is also the largest castle ruin in England. Founded
in the 1120s, Kenilworth Castle has been owned by numerous Kings, used as a prison
and been the setting for the longest siege in British history during its 900 year

Kenilworth High Street
Forming the east and north sides of Abbey Fields, Bridge Street and High Street
are home to numerous examples of fine listed buildings in excellent condition, and
makes for a great afternoon walk around.
Little Virginia
The quaint little hamlet of Little Virginia sits close to Kenilworth Castle, and
originally consisting of fifteen cottages which date from the 17th Century, were
used to house the masons & builders employed by Robert Dudley for works on the
Castle. These picturesque thatched cottages are well worth admiring before or after
your visit to Kenilworth Castle.
The Clock Tower
The clock stands at the head of Warwick Road by Abbey End, the modern part of the
town. The Clock Tower was presented to Kenilworth in 1906 by G.M. Turner as a memorial
to his late wife. A German bomb damaged the top of it in 1940 and also destruction
a nearby hotel with 28 deaths. A plaque nearby records those events, reading: "Near
this spot stood The Globe Hotel, destroyed by enemy action on the night of 21 November
1940, killing 28 people. Their known names are recorded on a table in the cemetery
chapel".
