Broadway Tower
Broadway Tower is situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the Cotswolds,
312metres above sea level making it one of England's outstanding viewpoints. The
tower itself stands 17 metre high and the "Saxon" tower was designed by James Wyatt
in 1794 to resemble a mock castle. The tower was built for Lady Coventry in 1799
on a "beacon" hill, where beacons were lit on special occasions.
Broadway Tower overlooks some of the very best of the Cotswold countryside in a
62 mile radius and it is the second highest point on the Cotswold ridge so you are
guaranteed a great view! There is plenty of wildlife and an array of wild flowers
in the summer for visitors to enjoy, and near Broadway Tower is a memorial to the
crew of an A.W.38 Whitley bomber that crashed there during a training mission in
June 1943.
